Growing up in Texas, Michell Robotham often went on hunting trips with her two younger brothers. Proud of being the "big sister," Ms. Robotham was protective of her brothers, and didn't want them to go into the fields alone.

"But she wouldn't shoot anything. She would never want to hurt anything," Ms. Robotham's brother, Rodney Callum of Manahawkin, recalled yesterday as he prepared for her memorial service.

Ms. Robotham, 32, of Kearny, was killed on Sept. 11 when two hijacked jetliners crashed into the World Trade Center, where she worked on the 103rd floor of Tower Two as a computer help desk manager for Aon Corp. Her remains were recovered last week.

As a child, Ms. Robotham's family split their time between Houston and Three Lakes, Wis., and in both places, she was something of a peacemaker who made friends easily. "She would talk to everyone and never really pick sides," said Callum.

Since Ms. Robotham's daughter, Alexandra Rae, was born six years ago, she was the center of Ms. Robotham's life, relatives said.

Ms. Robotham read stories to her daughter every night, and took her to the park on weekends. "She was a fantastic mother, she adored her daughter," said her sister-in-law, Michelle Callum.

Struggling as a single mother to raise her daughter in Houston, Ms. Robotham worked hard, and even separated from her daughter for two months while she established herself in the job at Aon and found an apartment in Kearny.

"It was a tremendous thing she did as a mother. She really wanted to succeed, to make a better life for them," said Michelle Callum. "She wanted to give Alex every opportunity that she never had."

Ms. Robotham was still trying to make things better for them by studying at night to earn a certification in computer engineering.

Three days before the attack, Ms. Robotham dressed her daughter in a frilly seafoam green flower girl's dress and danced with her at Rodney and Michelle's wedding. The entire extended family flew to New Jersey from Texas and Wisconsin, and celebrated into the night.

"We couldn't have asked for a better last day together," said Michelle Callum.

In addition to her daughter, brother and sister-in-law, Ms. Robotham is survived by her ex-husband, Bill Robotham of Houston; a brother, Travis Callum of Pearland, Texas; and her parents, Linda and Chet Callum of Houston.

Funeral arrangements will be made by the Wilfred Armitage Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive in Kearny. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday and a funeral services will be held Saturday. Burial will be at a family plot in Wisconsin.
